COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Naples Airport has scheduled four Plane Talk sessions in early 2026 to boost dialogue between tenants and community members. The events will be held at Cambier Park on Jan. 26 and March 30 and at the airport’s Operations Building on Feb. 25 and April 22 (9:30-11 a.m.) with coffee and pastries provided.  Florida Weekly
  • Naples residents honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 19 when families enjoyed the 29th annual parade along Third Street South & Fifth Avenue South before gathering at Cambier Park for food, music and performances, with Mayor Teresa Heitmann paying tribute to Harold Weeks Jr.  Naples Daily News

  • The Naples Woman’s Club hosted its Empowering Women’s Luncheon and raised almost $30,000 to fund scholarships for women over 21 returning to education (with speaker Laurie Sammons and co-chairs Laura Rivela and Elaine Leppert present).  Florida Weekly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Everglades National Park will waive its $35 week and $70 annual fees on Feb. 16, May 25, June 14, July 3, July 4 and July 5, Aug. 25, Sept. 17 and Oct. 27 — giving visitors free entry this year. The park also plans to open a new Visitor Center near Everglades City this winter.  News-Press
  • FPL crews are restoring power along Wilson Boulevard and Jung Boulevard after strong winds knocked tree branches down and left residents without electricity for hours. High winds across the Gulf Coast, from Charlotte County to Cape Coral, have affected over 140,000 customers.  NBC2
  • Smoke was visible for miles across Southwest Florida on Monday as the Florida Forest Service carried out a prescribed burn covering about 1,400 acres south of Tamiami Trail near Fakahatchee Strand Preserve. Experts warned that dry conditions increased wildfire risks (a reminder to use caution with ignition sources).  WINK News

  • Two Naples businesswomen, Jennifer Johnson and Sue Ryan, were named chairpersons for the American Heart Association’s Southwest Florida Go Red for Women Initiative on Jan. 19 and will lead local efforts to boost heart health awareness + bridge gaps in research, education and care.  Naples Daily News
