  • The Marco Island Shell Club will host its Spring Expo and Shell Art Sale on March 13–14 at New Life Community Church at 489 West Elkcam Circle. The event features handmade shell art, raffle drawings, and displays by club members, with a $3 admission donation.  Coastal Breeze News
  • Former local weather forecaster Matt Devitt returned his updates to Facebook after his page was restored (thanks to Attorney General James Uthmeier) and reconnected with the community following a hiatus from local TV, posting his message Wednesday afternoon.  WGCU
  • Teenager Paul Campbell dropped off boxes of socks, underwear, and other essential items at St. Matthew's House's Campbell Lodge Shelter. His record-breaking donation from a seven-year holiday sock drive supported people experiencing homelessness in the community.  NBC2
  • The family of the late Pat Barton will receive the Pacesetter award for her dedication to girls at risk during the Believing in Girls Empowerment Luncheon on Feb. 27 at the Ritz-Carlton Tiburon Golf Resort. Barton founded Pace Center for Girls in Immokalee in 1998.  Naples Daily News
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County hosted its Great Futures Gala & Youth Awards, honoring 2026 Youth of the Year candidates and recognizing Giving is Living Award recipients with local community contributions.   • An exhibition at The Baker Museum of Art is celebrating 100 years of art deco by showcasing works from the era, including pieces by Tamara De Lempicka, whose art was collected by Jay and Patty Baker + the show highlights the style that reshaped American art.  WGCU
  • Naples' Le Colonial will serve special Lunar New Year dishes on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at (457 Fifth Avenue South) from 4 to 9:30 p.m. The French-Vietnamese restaurant has five dinner specials, including small plates, entrees and dessert, inviting guests to honor the holiday with a festive meal.  Naples Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maintenance on the Sand Dollar Island berm will finish by Feb. 15, with grading before the nesting season begins as officials plan further yearly repairs after storm damage. A Shark Fishing Awareness event is set for Monday, March 2, at 10:00 a.m. in the MIPD Community Room on Marco Island.  Coastal Breeze News

  • Collier County Animal Services revamped its shelter at North Collier Regional Park with a new 900 sqft Purr & Play cat center where adoptable cats roam cage free and visitors access WiFi and seating. Upgrades include building improvements and enhanced safety measures for better animal care.  Naples Daily News
  • Florida lawmakers on Wednesday voted 112-1 to approve a bill that names the American flamingo as the state bird (replacing the mockingbird of nearly 100 years). The measure now awaits Senate committee review (expected to address regional concerns).  WGCU

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Health in Collier County lifted a water advisory for Clam Pass Beach on North Gulfshore Boulevard after Feb. 9 tests showed safe levels of Enterococcus bacteria; the advisory began on Feb. 4. Beach visitors in Naples can now enjoy the water.  WGCU
  • At Ave Maria University, the Florida Department of Health reported 57 measles cases, including seven contagious cases identified during a Feb. 11 update. University officials said campus operations continue as lab test results will be posted later today.  WINK News

  • At 5:10 a.m. on Feb. 11, a Port Royal home sold for $55 million, topping Naples’ list of costly January sales with prices from $8.05 to $55 million. *Royal Shell Real Estate* data showed that high-end homes in communities like The Moorings, Pelican Bay and Olde Naples were sold.  Naples Daily News
