  • Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Diego is honored today at First Naples Church on Orange Blossom Drive — public viewing starts at 10:30 a.m. and the service begins at noon as a procession from Hodges Funeral Home causes road delays.  WINK News
  • The SWFL Wine & Food Fest Live Auction in Naples raised a record $3 million for children’s charities as generous participants bid on fine wines and gourmet foods. Organizers said the event marked a new milestone in local fundraising + underscored strong community support.  Naples Daily News

  • More than 100 second-graders from Immokalee participated in Guadalupe Center’s Buddy Day on Feb. 28 at Hideaway Beach Club on Marco Island. Volunteers paired students with Big Buddies for outdoor lessons and beach games that built learning and confidence.  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Road 29 was closed from Interstate 75 to U.S. 41 on Saturday, Feb. 28 as Florida Highway Patrol and Forestry Services worked to curb a 25,000 acre brush fire in Big Cypress National Preserve. Only local residents who were not evacuated could access the area, and patrols monitored traffic.  Naples Daily News

  • The Sentinels beat the Celtics on Friday, Feb. 27 — winning the Region 2A-3 championship and earning a spot at state for the fourth straight year.  Naples Daily News
  • The Seacrest Country Day Stingrays won the Class 1A regional championship 62-40 over Keswick Christian on Friday, Feb. 27 at Seacrest Country Day School, with coach Nikita Carty raising the trophy & players celebrating the win.  Naples Daily News
