CULTURE NEWS

  • TheatreZone announced its 2026-27 season that includes six musicals and four concerts with a combined October kickoff with Florida Gulf Coast University at the FGCU Theatre Lab (North Naples). Mainstage productions, starting with Home for the Holidays on Dec. 18, will feature new works like Barcelona: The Musical and Barry Manilow's Harmony.  News-Press

  • Gas prices in Florida held at $2.88 a gallon on Monday, March 2, but experts warn they could soon top $3 after the Feb. 27 U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran. Local motorists may notice a price jump at stations statewide.  News-Press

  • Literacy Council Gulf Coast held its annual Brunch & Bubbles fundraiser on Sunday, March 1 at Spanish Wells Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs to support adult English literacy programs, with growing need due to Florida’s new English-only driver’s license exam policy.  WGCU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A human-caused fire that ignited Feb. 22 has grown to over 35,000 acres with 38% containment as of March 2 (burning about 20 miles east of Naples) in Big Cypress National Preserve. Officials said no property damage is expected and State Road 29 was reopened after its temporary closure.  News-Press
  • Audubon staff at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary collected 164,307 wildlife photos last fall for the SnapshotUSA program to study 14 mammal species and track images of deer + bobcats + boars. The study also captured a King Rail carrying nesting material, hinting at breeding activity in the sanctuary.  WGCU
  • Stargazers in southwest Florida can watch today's total lunar eclipse when the full moon turns red as it enters Earth's shadow at 6:03 a.m. A rare selenelion occurs at sunrise when the sun rises at 6:49 a.m. and the moon sets at 6:51 a.m.  NBC2

  • Florida Road Rangers offer free roadside assistance on major highways, providing tire changes, jump-starts, emergency fuel, and minor repairs while motorists can call (347) for help and must follow the Move Over law for safety.  News-Press

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today, Florida residents can watch a blood moon and partial total lunar eclipse during the full Worm Moon. The eclipse begins at 3:44 a.m. ET with peak shadow at 6:33 a.m. ET (full coverage may not appear) so look low on the horizon.  News-Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mortgage rates dropped below 6% on Feb. 26 — a change that increased home sales activity statewide and helped first-time buyers plan their next move, according to local realtors.  Naples Daily News
  • Habitat for Humanity of Collier County is developing Las Palmas with 210 affordable homes built in two phases; Phase one includes 60 condos + Phase two adds 150 condos and townhomes. Construction will finish by 2028 and offer local families a path to stability.  Fox 4
