CULTURE NEWS

  • The Naples St. Patrick's Day Parade, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is set to start at 11 a.m. tomorrow in downtown Naples. Local donors raised $46,000 to cover higher security fees, and parade proceeds will support high school bands and student scholarships.  News-Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Roofing prices in Naples are dropping because 2025 had no hurricanes that strained supply & disrupted contractor schedules. General manager Rast Bryant from Lloyd Roofing said that homeowners benefit from stabilized insurance premiums and a steadier market.  News-Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Collier County schools are on spring break from March 9 until Monday, March 16. In 44 Florida counties, most districts will begin their break on March 16 while a few set their own schedules.  News-Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Climate Prediction Center issued an El Niño watch on March 12, signaling a shift from a weak La Niña that may lead to fewer hurricanes during the summer months in Florida, with updated forecasts from AccuWeather & Colorado State University expected soon.  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Collier County resident Erin Marfongella feared for her safety after her neighbor lit two illegal bonfires during the current burn ban, with firefighters responding on Feb. 28 and March 10 as flames reached six feet, and county code enforcement began an investigation to warn the homeowner.  NBC2
  • Collier County began work on the Stan Gober Memorial Bridge on March 12 by reducing it to one lane using barrels, cones (and flaggers) to guide traffic. Drivers should expect delays as repairs on the deck, columns, and foundation continue and work under the bridge affects boat traffic.  Naples Daily News

  • A measles outbreak that began at Ave Maria University in late January has spread beyond its campus east of Naples — officials have not yet released further details.  Naples Daily News
  • Naples Comprehensive Health announced today a $5 million philanthropic gift from Glenn and Kay Hasse to advance cardiovascular care at the Rooney Heart Institute, which will invest in cutting-edge technology (and recruit top clinical talent) to better serve patients.  Life In Naples
