COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Café of Life in Bonita Springs is partnering with Bikes for Tykes to provide refurbished bicycles for residents in need—200 bikes have been donated so far and 15 will be given each month to help people reach work, school, and the food pantry. The program supports local residents with transportation challenges so they can easily access meals and other services at the café.  WGCU

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brush fire burned 10 acres in Collier County on March 26 and forced residents to evacuate as flames reached high into trees behind homes—officials said the dry conditions increased fire risk.  Naples Daily News
  • Residents in Naples' Wilshire Lakes evacuated on Wednesday when a brush fire grew to 10 acres, stalling rush-hour traffic and prompting helicopters to drop water, and officials said it was 98% contained by Thursday as firefighters worked on hotspots.  Naples Daily News

  • Sea Love Candle Bar & Boutique opened this week at Coconut Point in Estero as owner Tina Smagala launched her new candle shop after working three decades in corporate HR and communications. CULTURE NEWS

  • Nearly ten years after Dr. Teresa Sievers was murdered in Estero, her sister Annie Lisa turned her grief into purpose by writing a book about their unbreakable bond — the book shows how she found healing from loss and seeks to support others. Her work follows a 2019 verdict that found Teresa’s husband guilty of hiring two men to kill her, and his appeal will be heard on May 5.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The spiny lobster season for recreational and commercial fishing in state and federal waters will close to harvest on April 1 and reopen Aug. 6. The recreational sport season will last two days—July 30 and 31.  WGCU
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, crews from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection conducted a prescribed burn on 40 acres at Estero Bay Preserve State Park to reduce wildfire risk. Neighbors voiced concerns about the park's appearance while officials explained the burn cleared dangerous undergrowth — a practice managed with strict safety measures.  WINK News
