- ➤ Costco Wholesale Corp. submitted formal plans for a 162,671-square-foot new store with a fuel station on nearly 22 acres on the southeast corner of Collier Boulevard and Rattlesnake Hammock Road after a neighborhood protest. The new location will be more than 14,000 square feet larger than the existing store on Naples Boulevard — it will be reviewed by county Growth Management and Community Development staff before public hearings. - ➤ Calusa Waterkeeper held a luncheon and fundraiser at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater to raise funds and talk about the Caloosahatchee River's water quality issues—FGCU marine expert Michael Parsons explained that development and climate change are making the river more vulnerable. WGCU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Collier County is investigating permit fraud in open permits and ongoing construction—stop-work orders are being issued if work has started. At least 400 single-family homes and commercial buildings have received certificates of occupancy using fraudulent architectural seals. The Naples Press
- ➤ Naples Airport has installed the new 'Fly Safe, Fly Quiet' logo on signs, kiosks and fuel trucks — a measure aimed at reminding student pilots and private jets to follow curfew rules. Airport management said the program — now in effect — will help reduce future violations. The Naples Press
- ➤ After four months of tied votes, Marco Island City Council unanimously appointed a retired CEO and local philanthropist as its seventh councilor yesterday—bringing an end to the voting deadlock. The Naples Press
- ➤ Operation Green Light—an amnesty for overdue fines—is set to let drivers in counties across Southwest Florida, including Collier from April 2nd to April 3rd, avoid a 25% surcharge and choose special payment plans that may restore suspended licenses.
