CRIME NEWS

  • A deputy in East Naples shot and killed an aggressive dog on Sunday afternoon after eight 911 calls reported four loose German Shepherds chasing residents—officials said the incident will be reviewed by the Professional Responsibility Bureau.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center confirmed Hurricane Milton as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record—it reached Category 5 over the Atlantic before making landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane that caused widespread damage in Sarasota, Tampa Bay, and Southwest Florida. The storm resulted in 15 direct deaths and about $34.3 billion in damage and featured a severe tornado outbreak with 45 tornadoes reported across the Florida Peninsula.  News-Press

  • Several SW Florida beach volleyball pairs will compete in the upcoming FHSAA postseason, with top teams including Gabby Dwyer and Ashlee Tenkley from Fort Myers, who posted an 18-2 record, and Alexa Haley and Milena Lopez from Seacrest County Day, who remain undefeated so far—other promising pairs from Estero, Bishop Verot and Barron Collier also prepare to make waves.  Naples Daily News

  • Luke Colton won the Terra Cotta Invitational at Naples National Golf Club by eight strokes and tied the lowest 54-hole score ever with a 14-under, earning his second straight championship.
