  • Many family-friendly Easter events will be held across Southwest Florida starting April 12th, featuring egg hunts, crafts, and parades in communities like Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, and Bonita Springs — in Naples, a local event will take place today at Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  WINK News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver crashed into St. Matthew's House Thrift Store on Thursday at 10:40 a.m., injuring at least five people and causing heavy traffic on Airport-Pulling Road near the Collier County Government Complex as deputies secured the scene—officials provided care to the injured.  Fox 4

CRIME NEWS

  • Collier County deputies investigated a shooting near Poinciana Elementary School on Thursday morning along Airport-Pulling Road — law enforcement was present though the investigation was not linked to the school and posed no threat to the community.  Fox 4
  • Shawndell Deandre McCann Joseph of Naples was found guilty of shooting at Abaco Bay apartments off Bayshore Drive near Sugden Regional Park and of violating his probation—his sentencing on May 5 will be for a minimum of 15 years in prison.  News-Press

  • Arts Bonita presents Jesus Christ Superstar with a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice plus choreography by Kody Jones. Mia Zottolo—cast as Judas—is set to bring a fresh twist to the role in a production performing today at 7 p.m. in the Hinman Auditorium.  WGCU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Marco Island Shell Club awarded $20,000 in scholarships and grants to students in marine sciences and conservation, including endowed awards at Florida Gulf Coast University that received an extra $2,000 each. Isabel Kacprowski received an undergraduate scholarship and Celina Ceballos got a graduate scholarship while additional funding supported marine research and coastal education projects.  Coastal Breeze News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting April 16, it will be illegal to remove bats from homes without a permit during the maternity season until Aug. 14—this new rule protects baby bats and supports local ecology. Residents should address bat infestations soon or secure a permit once the law takes effect.  News-Press
