BUSINESS NEWS

  • The iconic Captiva restaurant, The Bubble Room, is set to reopen mid-May after closing since Hurricane Ian and delays from Hurricanes Helene and Milton in late 2024 — restoration has returned most antique décor and a familiar menu with minor updates planned for September. Most of the 93 pre-Ian staff members will return as repairs finish, and the venue at 15001 Captiva Drive readies to welcome loyal customers again.  News-Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The National Park Service office on Horseshoe Drive in Naples will close by Aug. 31 due to federal workforce cuts under the Department of Government Efficiency — staff learned of the shutdown from the DOGE website and now worry that local conservation efforts may suffer.  NBC2
  • Naples will consider a nearly $12 million loan to keep the 95-unit Stillwater Cove apartment complex affordable for local workers—city leaders say the housing is crucial due to limited land and the risk of sale to a private developer raising rents. Officials will review their options at a meeting in May.  WINK News

  • A new guide lists Florida’s top waterfront restaurants, from beach bars to upscale spots like Naples’ Baleen, which reopened in July after Hurricane Ian. The list—covering food, prices and views—helps local diners choose a spot to enjoy the water.  Naples Daily News

  • Tennis legend Andre Agassi will make his pro pickleball debut in Naples on Wednesday, April 30—teaming up with 18-year-old Anna Leigh Waters, the top-ranked player in mixed doubles.   • The SW Florida spring football season begins on May 16 with key matchups such as Naples Golden Eagles—seeking to build on a recent Final Four run—set to face Venice on May 21 amid coaching changes and player transfers.
