  • A brush fire broke out early Monday morning in the Berkshire Lakes preserve and nearly reached homes before fire crews contained it after about two acres burned near Cutty Sark Lane—residents were relieved no homes were affected.  NBC2

CRIME NEWS

  • Scammers have targeted Collier County pet owners by impersonating Domestic Animal Services to demand cash for fake emergency surgeries — officials say DAS will never call to ask for money and will only notify owners in person at the East Naples shelter.  NBC2

  • Gulfshore Opera presents Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor today at Barbara B. Mann with the Naples Philharmonic in the pit. Soprano Susanne Burgess makes her debut in the title role in a production that will also play on May 2 at Artis Naples.  WGCU

SPORTS NEWS

  • At 90, Dr. Jerry Weis, a longtime Naples golfer, won his eighth club championship at Vi at Bentley Village — showing his hard work and positive attitude helped him beat health setbacks like two heart surgeries and a knee replacement.  ABC7
  • U.S. Open Pickleball Championships began Saturday at East Naples Community Park and will run through May 3, drawing nearly 3,500 competitors from all 50 states and 40 countries to compete in about 6,000 matches — a highlight is set for Wednesday when Anna Leigh Waters and Andre Agassi will play mixed doubles.  Fox 4
