- ➤ The Gargiulo Education Center in North Naples offers academic support, mental health services, and apprenticeship programs for migrant and at-risk children. Founded 25 years ago as an after-school program, the center now picks up students from school+community backing helps it provide extra curriculum and a safe space for kids. WINK News
- ➤ Jersey Mike’s and 16 local restaurants raised $176,778 during their month-long Day of Giving for a new Golisano Children’s Hospital Surgery Center while 810 Entertainment at Miromar Outlets in Estero will serve special margarita deals from May 2 through May 5 for Cinco de Mayo—Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife is hosting a burrowing owl photo contest open until May 17 with winners announced on May 31, and the Fort Myers Beach Art Association opened its new gallery today from 4 to 6 p.m. with a Spring Fling display and plans for a larger October celebration. - ➤ Collier County high school graduations will be held on May 16th, May 23rd and May 24th at various local schools with events scheduled from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.—including Seacrest County Day School, ARH Auditorium and Naples High—to give graduating students several ways to celebrate. - ➤ On April 22, the Collier County Commission approved the purchase of Williams Reserve, a 2247 acre conservation area in Immokalee for nearly $20.1 million despite concerns over soil and groundwater contamination. Commissioners also voted on additional conservation land purchases and an ordinance that limits class three e-bike use by youth under 16 & enforces a 15 mph speed limit on sidewalks and shared-use paths. - ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to sign a bill banning added fluoride from public drinking water; Naples, Immokalee, Collier County and Lee County recently voted to remove extra fluoride—dentists warn the measure may lead to more cavities among vulnerable residents. ABC7

- ➤ Andre Agassi and Anna Leigh Waters won their opening round mixed doubles match at the US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples on April 30, defeating 16-year-old Tristan Dussault and 13-year-old Stevie Petrpouleas in three games.
