  • Community Cooperative collected 11 tons of peanut butter and jelly during its annual PB&J Drive, where local groups competed for the Most Love Collected title + donations went toward fighting summer hunger. All contributions will support food programs and Hungry Hungry Kiddo Kits that feed children and families during the summer.  WGCU

  • Estia Greek restaurant opened April 17 on Vanderbilt Beach Road in North Naples after two years of planning—its owners wanted to bring a coastal Greek vibe to diners.  The Naples Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Naples men were arrested on April 17 at a grocery store parking lot—where they planned to murder the sibling of a man who hired them—and were indicted on May 1 on conspiracy charges after evidence showed phone calls discussing the hit.  News-Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservation crews at Naples Botanical Garden are restoring sand dunes at Vanderbilt Beach with a mix of plants to block storm surges and protect inland areas. The project will boost local tourism and support the community’s economy — a new effort to strengthen the beach against storms.  WINK News

HEALTH NEWS

  • NCH will open a new orthopedic center called HSS at NCH at its North Hospital in North Naples in the coming weeks to offer inpatient and outpatient services including surgery, rehabilitation, and doctors' offices. The center features a zero gravity treadmill + surgical robots for joint and spine procedures to help patients recover faster.  WINK News
