- ➤ On Memorial Day, most local grocery chains operated with regular or shortened hours for residents – however, Costco remained closed per its policy while banks and schools also stayed shut due to the federal holiday. News-Press
- ➤ On Memorial Day yesterday, a vigil at Arlington National Cemetery honored Cape Coral’s Capt. Daniel Eggers, who died in Afghanistan in 2004; tributes in Southwest Florida, including in Naples, also remembered fallen soldiers. - ➤ Runners, families, and pets gathered at Paradise Coast Sports Complex yesterday morning for SNIP Collier's 11th annual Memorial Day 5K and Kids Run, honoring fallen veterans and supporting Gulf Coast animal care (including low-cost spay and neuter services) as about 200 participants ran to fund essential programs. - ➤ Yesterday, on Memorial Day, Southwest Florida locals took part in the challenging 'Murph' workout to honor military members killed in action. Participants ran a mile, did 100 push-ups, 200 pull-ups, and 300 squats — a tribute that many plan to continue annually. NBC2
