  • The community is honoring former Collier deputy Raul 'Rudy' Dimas, who died in a fatal crash on May 24th, 1999, while driving west on Immokalee Road. He served for 16 years and was known for his calm approach and bilingual skills — his legacy lives on in the memories of his family and fellow citizens.  WINK News
  • Yesterday, the Collier County Veterans Council hosted a Memorial Day service at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Garden where veterans, families and community leaders honored fallen service members with speeches, musical performances and an honor guard presentation from the Collier Sheriff's Office—accompanied by a flyover and wreath ceremony.  Naples Daily News

  • A silver SUV crashed into a retention pond off Interstate 75 near Chaparel Drive in Bonita Springs at 2 a.m. Monday—divers are searching the area as the driver remains missing.  NBC2

CRIME NEWS

  • The Naples Police Department arrested 21-year-old Charles Edward Shookman on Thursday for allegedly stealing nearly $6,000 in jewelry from a condominium after a victim reported three missing pieces on April 9—police said Shookman, a self-proclaimed social media influencer working as a maintenance worker, pawned one stolen item and faces charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property.  WINK News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fringe Fort Myers returns May 29–June 1 with nine acts offering theater, comedy and music as organizer Neil Volz defends the event's free expression amid political criticism. The festival introduces a rating system for shows and will feature a preview show and special ticket pricing that benefits the artists.  Naples Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Naples Woman’s Club awarded a record $362,000 in scholarships to 48 Collier County students studying fields such as architecture, neuroscience, and occupational therapy. The club—founded in 1932—has given over $4 million in total support to high school seniors and women returning to college.  News-Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lee Health Trauma Center has served five counties for 31 years by providing round-the-clock lifesaving care, support programs, and injury prevention initiatives—its team remains dedicated to aiding patient recovery. Earlier this year, the center hosted its first Advanced Trauma Life Support two-day course—approved in January—to train healthcare professionals in trauma care.  Naples Daily News

  • The Jeff Sommer Memorial Coach of the Year Award finalists were announced to honor the late Estero High coach known for his dedication and impact in our community.
