  • SNIP Collier volunteers found a tiny puppy stuffed in a bag under a house when Ronnie and a tree trimmer helped pull it out, revealing a scared pup; more puppies and their mother were found in poor conditions and now are safe in a foster home + SNIP Collier asks for more volunteers to help other animals in need.  WINK News
  • Today, Purradise Gardens in Naples provides a safe home for about 260 street cats from Collier County by using five houses linked with screened decks and tunnels — managed entirely by volunteers under Executive Director Megan Sorbara. The nonprofit also runs nightly feeding programs at an industrial park off Airport Road and hosts weekend adoption events at PetSmart on Tarpon Bay Blvd, relying solely on donations including a $150,000 gift received last November.  The Naples Press
  • Pool Scouts and Hope Floats are working together to teach Naples kids water safety—efforts prompted by a near-drowning incident that changed one family's world in minutes. Their programs rely on donations and local partnerships to help prevent drownings in our community.  The Naples Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Marco Island Center for the Arts and the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas are exchanging exhibitions that will showcase Latinx art and artists, with the Marco show open through July 1 and a reception on June 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Miami museum will host Marco to Miami from June 20 to July 20 to display 14 Marco Island artists — a plan that aims to strengthen cultural ties.  WGCU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Naples City Council voted to end plans to purchase Stillwater Cove apartments for workforce housing due to high costs and flood risks—citing that renovations would be too expensive and unsafe. After months of debate, council members agreed the property may soon be demolished and redeveloped with higher priced housing.  News-Press

  • A historic River Park home that has been in the Rementeria-Griffin family for four generations will be elevated with state grant funds to protect it from flooding—a project that aims to boost the home’s resilience after severe hurricane damage.  The Naples Press
