  • On May 23, participants with intellectual disabilities honed their golf skills at Tiburón Golf Club through the I GOT THIS Golf Camp run by Goodwill Industries as part of its five-day program for athletes 13 and older—providing a chance for some to lead sessions and share what they've learned.  Naples Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tomorrow, June 11, the full moon will peak at 3:44 a.m. ET and appear unusually low on the southern horizon—an event rare since 2006 that will not occur again until 2043. The moon may also look larger and show orange or reddish hues as it climbs in the sky.  News-Press
  • The Conservancy of Southwest Florida reached a milestone by removing 6,300 pounds of invasive Burmese pythons from a 200-square-mile area during its hunting season. The team used radio telemetry and scout snakes — specially tagged males — to locate reproductive pythons, contributing to efforts that have removed over 20 tons since 2013.  WINK News
  • Wildland firefighters in Big Cypress National Preserve lit the first of three prescribed fires yesterday—clearing dead underbrush to reduce wildfire risks. The controlled burn led park rangers to close several trails for safety—drivers along Alligator Alley reported seeing a plume of smoke.  WGCU

  • Noah Kent, a 20-year-old amateur golfer from Naples and a Gulf Coast High School graduate, will compete at the U.S. Open on June 12 at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. He gained PGA Tour experience in three events including the Masters and will play with UF assistant coach Dudley Hart— a two-time PGA Tour winner— as his caddie.  Naples Daily News
