CRIME NEWS

  • A Marco Island couple faces felony animal cruelty charges after authorities rescued 57 neglected cats and found 15 to 20 dead cats in a freezer—arraignment is set for July 7.  News-Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Juneteenth, June 19th, non-essential federal offices, post offices and the stock market will be closed and most banks will likely shut—while UPS and FedEx maintain their regular services. The DMV will be open and some local offices may adjust hours as Florida observes the day as a holiday of observance—leaving retail businesses to set their own schedules.  Naples Daily News
  • Hemp packaging and marketing laws went into effect yesterday, requiring products to have child-resistant packaging and label designs that do not appeal to children (labels must include accurate serving sizes and measurements).  NBC2
  • The City announced that Goldenrod Bridge repairs scheduled for June 16 have been postponed to mid-July — officials will update residents when a new construction date is set.  Coastal Breeze News
  • Since June 16, road closures have been in effect on 10th Street North in Naples for water main improvements — the closure from Sixth Avenue North to Seventh Avenue North runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with detour signs provided.  NBC2

  • FGCU sophomore Evan Dempsey was selected for Team USA’s Collegiate National Team Camp and will join the team in Japan later this year after an impressive season as a two-way player. Local coach Dave Tollett will serve as the third base coach in the Stars vs. Stripes series in North Carolina—Bishop Verot head coach Casey Scott was promoted to manage Team USA’s 15U National Team.  Naples Daily News
