Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 20th of June.
Good morning, Naples.
🏛️ Government
Naples City Council voted on June 18 to require the Naples Airport Authority to submit annual development plans and obtain council approval for major projects—critics say this measure oversteps legal bounds.
City officials stress the change simply clarifies oversight of city-owned property amid concerns over jet noise and rising air traffic.
🏥 Health
Today, NCH Healthcare broke ground on a new $265 million Heart and Stroke Critical Care Center in Naples that will use state-of-the-art equipment to treat heart attacks and strokes.
The new facility will connect to the existing hospital and is expected to attract top medical talent as construction begins.
🏈 Sports
FC Naples returned last weekend to the Paradise Coast Sports Complex for a rematch with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, and the teams finished in a draw.
Forward Justin Weiss made his debut by scoring both goals as the team prepares for two road matches next week.
