COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Women’s Foundation of the Collier Community Foundation awarded a $30,000 grant to Collier Senior Center-Golden Gate to help older women get up to $1,000 in one-time emergency funds — the money will cover housing, prescriptions, and basic needs for those in financial hardship.  News-Press

  • FGCU grad Thor Parrish and his wife Jenny have expanded their hybrid gym Thunder Performance into Naples, blending CrossFit and golf training for local players. The new facility uses advanced tech like Trackman Launch Monitor and free weights to offer custom coaching — it will host classes and student events for golfers at all levels.  NBC2
  • New restaurants have opened in East Naples as the former Seventh South Craft Food + Drink closed at the end of April ahead of redevelopment by the Naples Community Church. The church, which has owned the property since 2012, began demolition on June 11—starting work on a new fellowship hall.  The Naples Press

  • The Florida Lottery warned residents today not to trust phone calls claiming false wins, saying scammers ask for money or personal details (winnings can only be claimed in person or by mail with a valid ticket).  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Collier County lifted its burn ban on June 10 following rainfall and improved drought conditions, while Naples bans fireworks on beaches, parks, the Naples Pier and beach access points west of Gulf Shore Boulevard. Florida law permits fireworks only on July 4, Dec 31 and Jan 1 — officials recommend watching professional shows and using safety measures if fireworks are lit.  News-Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Crews began demolishing the oldest building on the David Lawrence Centers’ Golden Gate campus to build a new 15,000 square foot mental health hub that will offer walk-in mental and physical care, an on-site pharmacy, and special programs for veterans and those battling addiction—state funding and a $4 million donation support the project, which will also train future health workers and is set for construction now with an expected opening in June or July next year.  Fox 4
  • A person in Collier County was diagnosed with malaria after returning from Africa, the Florida Department of Health in Collier County said on Wednesday—marking the first travel-related case in the county since 2017 and the 18th in Florida this year. Mosquito Control is testing local mosquitoes that can carry the parasite, and officials stress that the disease does not spread from person to person but can cause serious illness.  ABC7
  • After 19 meetings since (2017), Collier County commissioners approved a partnership with nonprofit David Lawrence Centers to build and operate the $56 million Collier County Behavioral Health Center, which is projected to open in (fiscal year 2027).  The Naples Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows the median home sale price in Collier County dropped to $650,000 in March from $675,000 in February—a decrease of 3.7%. Single-family homes and condos also saw lower prices compared to last year, with total sales reaching $1.3 billion in the county.  News-Press
