  • Ralph Portillo and Jimmy Montanez were honored by the North Collier Fire District for saving lives at the Vi at Bentley Village in Naples; Portillo revived a resident who stopped breathing and Montanez used the Heimlich maneuver on a choking resident + both credited their training for their quick actions.  Naples Daily News

  • Two new hospitality venues opened in Naples in late spring — one is a reimagined bar and restaurant from an old hangout and the other is a popular sandwich shop that expanded into a larger space.  The Naples Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Today marks 10 years since Dr. Teresa Sievers was killed in Bonita Springs as her case involved a planned attack by her husband that led him to receive a death sentence and her sister has written a book to honor her memory.  WINK News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local communities will celebrate Independence Day on July 4 with numerous events — including a parade, best dress contest, raffles and fireworks in Everglades City to mark the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  The Naples Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Naples Airport Authority is considering publicly shaming flight school owners — and private jet operators — who consistently violate the airport’s voluntary overnight flight curfew. Officials are evaluating the measure as a way to deter ongoing breaches and may put the plan into force soon.  The Naples Press
