  • A fatal crash killed at least one person on I-75 near MM 122 late last night—emergency crews are still blocking the center and right lanes.  WINK News

  • Kilwins on Fifth Avenue in Naples will close for renovations from July 7th until mid-October — the store has kept the same decor for over 20 years and will hold random sales to clear inventory before closing.  Naples Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Myers and Naples share early roots in water travel and trading posts and both benefited from the 1928 Tamiami Trail — Fort Myers grew from its military legacy and baseball history while Naples developed as a winter retreat with traditions like swamp buggy races — defining their unique identities.  Naples Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Collier County is renourishing Vanderbilt Beach with 4,500 tons of sand to restore coastlines damaged by hurricanes—using trucks from Immokalee today—while beachgoers must seek alternative access as crews work to finish before July 4 and check for sea turtle nests.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lee Health received ACGME approval to launch a four-year OB/GYN residency at Cape Coral Hospital in collaboration with Florida State University College of Medicine. The program will begin in July 2026 with six residents and add six each year until reaching 24—Dr. Carrie Johnson will serve as program director.  Naples Daily News
  • Beesley’s Paw Prints Pet Therapy Program is expanding its outreach by launching Beesley’s Gentle Paws Response — a new initiative that will send 85 certified therapy dogs to help families during tragedies such as hurricanes or serious accidents. The program partners with the Children's Advocacy Center and United Way and will have dogs visit schools, hospitals, and VA clinics when needed.  WINK News
