- ➤ Freedom Waters Foundation offers adaptive sailing programs at Sugden Regional Park with outings held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. October through April to give children and adults with disabilities, at-risk youth and veterans the chance to enjoy a safe water experience—volunteers and boat owners are invited to share their vessels and support the program. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A vehicle crashed on Immokalee Road early Thursday morning after a driver sped up to flee a traffic stop for no headlights, injuring two people who were taken to a hospital (Collier County authorities reported) and the crash remains under investigation (Florida Highway Patrol). NBC2
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Shake Shack announced plans to open a restaurant in Naples as part of its three-city expansion after Chief Development Officer Andrew McCaughan confirmed the move on July 2. The new location will be one of 34 openings this year—part of the chain’s goal to grow to 1,500 company-operated restaurants. Naples Daily News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 2025 Florida Python Challenge will run from 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 11 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 20 as hunters work to remove invasive Burmese pythons from commission-managed lands in South Florida. Experts say the large snakes (which are nonvenomous) do not kill people but threaten the Everglades ecosystem. Naples Daily News

- ➤ Lucy’s Law went into effect July 1 to raise penalties for boaters who leave a crash scene—if someone is seriously hurt boat operators will face second-degree felony charges and if a fatality occurs they will face first-degree felony charges with boating DUI penalties now matching those for car drivers.
