CULTURE NEWS

  • Masterpeace Art in Naples offers group and one-on-one workshops where participants try painting, printmaking, and pottery while enjoying a beverage — workshop details are shared on the studio's Instagram page.  Naples Daily News
  • The Naples Players were founded on Jan. 19, 1953 and staged their first production, I Remember Mama, on March 20 in what is now Gulfview Middle School—spurred by local leaders Henry and Mary Watkins. They later moved through multiple venues before settling at the Sugden Community Theatre, which underwent a $22 million expansion in 2024 and now hosts a 452-seat Kizzie Theater and a flexible 100-seat Tobye Studio Theatre.  Naples Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 22, protesters including Native Americans + conservation groups gathered at an abandoned jetport in eastern Collier County to oppose the planned immigrant detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz, with truck activity noted at the site; environmental groups allege the project may harm Big Cypress National Preserve.  WGCU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida’s new condo law, effective July 1, requires boards to send both a proposed budget and a substitute budget without extra discretionary spending when the proposed budget exceeds 115 percent of last year’s, with owners voting on the substitute first. The law also allows boards to invest reserve funds in specified bank accounts without an owner vote—further guidance on spending rules is expected.  News-Press
