- ➤ Emails show that state officials began building an immigration detention center called Alligator Alcatraz on an airstrip in Collier County while local leaders were still checking a rumor. Gov. DeSantis’s executive order sped up the project by bypassing local rules and legal processes, and the facility opened on July 1—officials now face legal challenges and oversight questions. ABC7
- ➤ Good Mood Ranch, a family-run farm in East Naples, received a notice that it must remove all animals and structures within 60 days due to a dispute over its protected wetlands land — owner Luc Goemaere has appealed the decision and started a petition that has drawn over 1,200 signatures as local agencies review the case.
