- ➤ Dr. Siddharth Narayan said Florida's mangrove forests reduced flood damage during Hurricane Ian in Collier County-saving $62 million and protecting over 8,000 people. His study found that mangroves cut flood damage by 25% on average statewide and warned that their benefits may change as warming temperatures shift the forests north. Coastal Breeze News
- ➤ The Florida Python Challenge—running from July 11 to July 20—took place in South Florida to fight invasive Burmese pythons and drew more than 900 hunters from the United States and Canada. Participants competed in professional, novice, and military categories for a cash prize, with winners yet to be announced. Naples Daily News
