  • Ann Walters (a Naples resident) asked if the long-vacant Pewter Mug lot could host a new restaurant; her comment (What am I missing?) points to questions about the best use of the spot.  The Naples Press
  • The Naples Airport Authority rejected federal and state construction grants and now faces uncertain funding for future construction and improvement projects. The airport has halted projects until the city's role in financing becomes clear.  The Naples Press

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday morning, Collier County deputies investigated a possible hit-and-run on U.S. 41 and Bayshore Drive that injured an adult bicyclist who was flown to a trauma hospital—eastbound lanes remain closed as the investigation continues.  Fox 4
  • Perry Mason Jr., 49, is accused of trying to burn suspected cocaine during a Collier County traffic stop when deputies smelled marijuana, and he was arrested on charges of cocaine possession, evidence tampering and other misdemeanors—he had three previous cocaine-related arrests in the area.  WINK News

  • Collier County Schools held a ribbon cutting at Bear Creek Elementary in Naples on Aug. 1, 2025 as Principal Margaux Horne and Superintendent Leslie Ricciardelli led the ceremony. Commemorative bricks were given to school officials (including School Board Chair Kelly Mason) and the event marked an important milestone (celebrating the new facility).  Naples Daily News

  • Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann’s DUI trial was postponed nearly a year after her misdemeanor arrest— the judge disqualified herself from presiding over the case.  The Naples Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at Naples Comprehensive Health implanted the country’s first wireless pacemaker, roughly the size of a grain of rice, into David Bollinger, who had struggled with heart failure and an irregular heartbeat that made walking difficult, and his condition improved with the device that synchronized both lower heart chambers — a method not possible with traditional pacemakers.  Fox 4
  • Healthcare Network is expanding services in Collier County by launching new programs including addiction treatment, optometry and infusion therapy and by opening a school-based clinic at Manatee Middle School through support from the Naples Children and Education Foundation—upcoming projects include a new community health center in Golden Gate Estates and a renovation of a medical center in Immokalee to improve access for residents.  Life In Naples
