  • Following the drowning of a 5-year-old non-verbal boy with autism in Golden Gate, local health and school officials are urging water safety and distributing safety packs—which include literature, door alarms, GPS tracker details, and free swim lessons—to help prevent more tragedies.  Fox 4

  • Good Mood Ranch in Collier County is facing possible closure due to regulatory issues — owner Luc Goemaere says he is weighing options to address the problems. He will decide on next steps to try and keep the farm open.  Naples Daily News
  • A Naples couple has created IMBA, a clean cognitive soda that uses natural ingredients like L-theanine to provide sustained energy without a crash—after more than 60 taste tests, the drink now comes in four flavors.   • Good Mood Ranch in Collier County has faced regulatory problems from a neighbor+ complaint and is fighting to stay open as it deals with permit issues for clearing land+.  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge on August 6 heard arguments that the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in the Everglades may have violated environmental law; environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe asked for an injunction until the case is fully reviewed. A separate suit claimed detainee rights were being violated and officials argued the case was filed in the wrong court—no decision was reached.  WGCU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mason Hoyt underwent brain surgery after a bullying incident at school and left Golisano Children's Hospital in April in a wheelchair—he now walks with weekly therapy, plans to run a 5K at Disneyland in the spring, and will start fourth grade next week.  WINK News
