- ➤ A Naples homeowner and his dog escaped after lightning struck and started a fire in the attic above a smoke-filled garage on Thursday night—he removed his vehicle, used a garden hose to fight the flames, and firefighters arrived at 8:58 p.m. at his Lancashire Place home while the American Red Cross assisted. - ➤ Nine months after federal agents raided Alfie Oakes’ properties, court records show that several local agriculture business owners were accused of covid relief fraud—one former vice president pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering while others face upcoming sentencing dates. - ➤ Steven Anthony Veneziano Jr. of Naples pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and admitted to defrauding the USDA’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program out of millions by submitting fake applications between 2020 and 2022—he agreed to forfeit over $1.15 million including Naples property and faces up to 20 years per count with sentencing scheduled for Nov. 17.
