  • Nearly three years after Hurricane Ian, Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice provided over $2.7 million in aid that replaced 149 homes and repaired 148 to help at least 960 local residents in Lee County. The group offers housing repairs, employment assistance, mental health care, food and transportation support — all as part of its long-term recovery efforts.  Naples Daily News
  • The Friends of Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park held a planting event yesterday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at parking lot 4 where volunteers helped finish the park planting.  NBC2

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old man was arrested after a deadly crash on June 12 on Corkscrew Road and Whidden Loop Road in Collier County — his car hit a dump truck at 90 mph and killed a 25-year-old passenger, and he now faces charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving.  ABC7
  • Florida ranks second for credit card fraud with rates eight times higher than the national average, a study by fraud experts at GBG found. The research, based on FBI data (and noting the state's large elderly population), shows that credit card scams accounted for more than one-third of identity theft reports nationwide.  Fox 4

  • Kevin Farley, a standup comedian who lives on Pine Island, will perform a clean comedy act at Off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples from Aug. 28 to Aug. 31 — his six shows feature personal stories, observational humor and one-liners that reflect his evolution since 2011. Performance times include 7 p.m. on Aug. 28, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, 6 and 8 p.m. on Aug. 30, and 6 p.m. on Aug. 31.  Florida Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Aug. 19, the FDA issued a recall for 2-pound Great Value Frozen Raw Ez Peel Tail-On shrimp sold at Walmart in 13 states including Florida after tests found trace amounts of Cesium-137 in shipments at four ports—Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and Savannah. The recall targets shrimp processed by an Indonesian company, and consumers are urged to discard any recalled product and seek medical advice if needed.  Naples Daily News
