  • Moon Valley Nurseries is coming to Naples at 2420 Orange Blossom Drive as workers clear the longtime nursery of plants and trees — local partners expect this major retail addition to boost business in the area. The new operation will soon offer a fresh option for locals and help grow the company’s footprint in Florida — officials said.  The Naples Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Collier County public schools must now have lifesaving equipment and training in place so that teachers, staff — and students can act during a cardiac emergency until help arrives. Officials say the new rule will boost safety on school campuses.  The Naples Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ruled that the government must close the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in the Everglades within 60 days after environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe filed a lawsuit claiming the facility harmed wildlife and wetlands—no more detainees may be added and the site cannot be expanded. Protesters said the decision is a win for the law, though the state has filed a notice to appeal.  NBC2
  • Collier County’s 120-bed veterans home and day care facility has been approved for $74.24 million in federal funding — the grant will help expand services for local veterans.  The Naples Press

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Chef Ralph Centalonza from Sage on 47th in Cape Coral is previewing his dishes for this year’s Sizzle Dining event—set to run from Sept. 3 to Sept. 30—to support Blessings in a Backpack, which provides food and supplies for hungry children. A record 128 restaurants will participate and offer special menus at full portion sizes, giving Naples residents a chance to dine out and help the community.  NBC2
  • Many boating enthusiasts including veterans are gearing up to spend extra time on the water during Labor Day weekend with a planned cruise in Naples Bay. Freedom Boat Club is offering a sailing trip that gives veterans a chance to share stories and relax.  The Naples Press

  • Lely defeated Golden Gate 62-0 in their season opener, which was called early due to weather, as quarterback Brady Quinn threw 5 touchdowns and logged 315 passing yards. The Trojans will host Calvary Christian next in their season schedule.  ABC7
