- ➤ A federal judge ruled that the government must close the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in the Everglades within 60 days after environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe filed a lawsuit claiming the facility harmed wildlife and wetlands—no more detainees may be added and the site cannot be expanded. Protesters said the decision is a win for the law, though the state has filed a notice to appeal. NBC2
