- ➤ Help A Diabetic Child will host its annual fundraiser dinner, A Cause Before the Cure: An Evening in Blue, on Friday, Nov. 14 at Tiburón Golf Club in North Naples with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.—tickets cost $300 and proceeds support children with diabetes. Naples Players will present two productions, And Then There Were None from Oct. 1 to 19 and Ada and the Engine from Oct. 15 to Nov. 9, while Sunshine Ace Hardware stores host Labor Day BBQ parties on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at several local locations. - ➤ Harry Chapin Food Bank has received a $51,000 grant from the Collier Community Foundation to buy fresh produce, canned goods, and other items for pantries across Collier County — the money supports its ongoing effort to fight hunger, following 12.6 million pounds of food provided in 2024. ABC7

- ➤ Farmworker Marco Antonio Hernandez Guevara collapsed in the fields on Aug. 13 and died eight days later after treatment at North Collier Hospital—his wife, now in the U.S. on a humanitarian visa, is working with local advocates to return his body to Mexico. WGCU

- ➤ Bravo Italian Kitchen in Naples closed on July 6th and its parent company Bravo Brio Restaurants filed for bankruptcy after shutting seven locations due to high inflation and rising interest rates— a new Greek restaurant named Violí will replace the closed site in Mercato. Naples Daily News
- ➤ Aldi is postponing several Florida store openings originally set for August with Bushnell, Leesburg, New Port Richey, Tampa and Aventura now scheduled for Sept 4 or Sept 11. Only the Jacksonville Briarwood Village store will open today at 8:45 a.m. - a ribbon-cutting ceremony with gift bags and a sweepstakes is planned - as part of the chain’s broad 2025 expansion. - ➤ Today, Kevin Farley begins his performance at Off The Hook Comedy Club as his shows run through August 31 — other events this weekend include Waterlily Weekend at Naples Botanical Garden on August 30-31, a farewell art exhibit at FGCU through Sept. 25, live music and brunch at Mercato, and college football games featuring Florida, FSU and Miami. - ➤ Naples Invitational is a biennial art show that will open Sept. 2 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m.—featuring local artists who began with Naples Art classes and displaying over 60 works by around 30 artists. - ➤ Naples Comprehensive Health announced a $10 million gift from Pete and Dawn Irving—longtime supporters—to fund the new R.M. Schulze Family Heart and Stroke Critical Care Center that will improve heart care with advanced imaging and treatment.
