  • Baker Senior Center Naples moved to its new building on Autumn Oaks Lane in North Naples and added 1,200 members since opening; the center will celebrate National Senior Center Month by offering programs—such as dementia respite and mental health counseling—that help seniors explore new interests and build social connections. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation released a new sea turtle update on Saturday showing 868 loggerhead nests, 21 green turtle nests, over 21,261 loggerhead hatchlings and 255 green hatchlings as of August 26. The group urged locals to turn off or shield beach lights after 9 p.m.—steps aimed at protecting hatchlings until the end of October.  NBC2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lee Health marks Recovery Month by offering addiction treatment services such as medication-assisted treatment and therapy for those with substance use disorder — the system’s expert team will provide individual recovery plans to help those in need.  Naples Daily News

  • From Sept. 3 to Sept. 30, 128 restaurants in Southwest Florida will offer dining deals with two-course lunches for $19 or $29 and three-course dinners from $29 to $59—each sale adding $1 to Blessings in a Backpack, with Naples spots like Estia and Blackbird Modern Asian joining the event.  Naples Daily News

  • In week one of college football, many SWFL high school alumni played for teams across the nation, including the Florida Gators in a 55 to 0 win and the USF Bulls in an upset over 25th-ranked Boise State.   • On August 31, top 14-year-old baseball players showed off their skills at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers during the 10th annual Perfect Game 14U Select Fest — 50 players competed from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — as MLB coach Tom Gordon led a team and helped raise funds for Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.  NBC2
