  • Chef Vincenzo Betulia will close The French Brasserie on Sept. 7 to turn the space into his new Tulia Italian Steak on Fifth Ave. S. He expects the restaurant to reopen in October with a menu of USDA Prime steaks, house-made pasta and French classics—preserving its eight-year legacy.  Naples Daily News
  • After demolition projects cleared former Nordstrom, Barnes & Noble and US Bank spaces, construction plans for RH, Williams Sonoma/Pottery Barn and Eddie V’s Prime Seafood were approved this summer at Waterside Shops — an upscale mall at U.S. 41 North and Seagate Drive in Naples.  The Naples Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Sizzle Dining is underway and will run for four weeks with 127 restaurants—including 49 in Lee County—participating to boost the local economy during a slow off-season. A portion of each meal sold supports Blessings in a Backpack to help local children.  NBC2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents at Calusa Elementary School in Naples are concerned about a dangerous intersection on Santa Barbara Boulevard that lacks proper signage, flashing lights, and police presence — dash cam footage shows speeding cars during drop-off times. They are urging officials to set a reduced speed limit, improve signage, and boost law enforcement — steps aimed at enhancing safety around the school.  WINK News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CREW Trust—managing 70,000 acres of preserve with 40 miles of trails—is launching a series of outdoor programs starting in October, including the Wet Walk on Oct. 1 in Bonita Springs and a Bug Watch on Oct. 3 in Immokalee. Additional guided walks in November will take place in Immokalee, Bonita Springs, and Naples to help local residents explore the preserve.  Naples Daily News
  • Rising human-alligator encounters have prompted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program known as SNAP—most recently after a hiker was attacked at CREW Bird Rookery Swamp on Aug. 17 in Collier County—to focus on removing nuisance alligators and reducing future risks.   • Forecasters say Invest 91L may form into a tropical depression early next week as it moves west across the central Atlantic. Officials will monitor its progress in the northeast Caribbean and warn Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Lee County—residents should check local weather updates.  News-Press

  • Kerry Brown, a Naples High graduate, is doing well as a safety for Minnesota after being named on the Shaun Alexander Freshman award list last season—coaches say he plays smart and shows leadership on the field.
