BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local hospitality companies are reinventing popular restaurants—Two Fillets closed on Aug.31 and will return as modern Mexican Caiman Cantina this fall, and The French Brasserie Rustique closed on Sept.7 to reopen as Tulia Italian Steakhouse in October—with chef Vincenzo Betulia leading the Italian steakhouse vision.  Florida Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Girl Scouts announced a new cookie called Exploremores—rocky road ice cream-inspired with chocolate, marshmallow, and almond flavored crème—that will join the 2026 lineup, with cookie sales in Naples starting Jan. 7. This new flavor continues the tradition of supporting local Girl Scout programs through cookie sales.  Naples Daily News
  • Grand Piano Series, led by Milana Strezeva in partnership with Artis—Naples, celebrates its 10th season with 10 concerts that begin on Oct. 22 at Daniels Pavilion and Ubben Signature Event Space—featuring local debuts and returning international artists performing works from classical to modern composers.  Florida Weekly
  • Friends of the Library will host an Author Spotlight Series at The Norris Center in Naples with talks by Sarah Penner on Oct. 9, Lew Paper on Nov. 6, and Rowan Beaird on April 9—each event will include a book signing and help raise funds for public libraries.   • Marco Island Center for the Arts opened a new exhibition—Oils & Etchings of People and Places—by Sir Roland Richardson on September 8 at La Petite Galerie. The show, featuring more than 60 years of work including scenes from the Naples Botanical Garden, will run until September 30 following a free opening reception on September 9.  Florida Weekly
  • On September 11th, several events honoring the Sept. 11 victims took place across Southwest Florida. In Naples, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, and Marco Island, local groups organized a stair climb, flag ceremony, blood drive, and commemorative service—each event paying tribute to those lost.  NBC2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Last summer, pesticides sprayed to control mosquitoes in marshes and coastal areas drifted into ponds, streams, and reefs — researchers tracking the chemicals are concerned about their potential harm to local aquatic ecosystems.  WGCU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lee County is reopening its LeeCares program to help people whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Ian nearly three years ago—households earning less than 80 percent of the area's median income can apply to repair damage. Applicants can call LeeCares at 239-382-5453 or visit the office on Gladiolus Drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  WGCU

  • The Healthcare Network will host its first Paddle Battle for Kids' Health pickleball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the USOP Pickleball Center to raise funds for quality healthcare for children in Collier County—registration costs $75 and a Kids’ Fun Zone with inflatables will be available for families.  ABC7

  • FC Naples extended its unbeaten streak to nine games today after Indiana native Karsen Henderlong scored goals and tied for the league lead, while Head Coach and Sporting Director Matt Poland said the team is pushing for the playoffs — season and single-match tickets remain available.  Fox 4
