CULTURE NEWS

  • Jerry DeCaire, a comics artist with more than 10 Marvel comics, overcame early criticism and earned a spot to draw an X-Men annual series after four years of hard work. He now runs workshops at schools and libraries that mix Marvel with math—helping Gulf Coast kids build their confidence.  ABC7
  • Friends of the Library of Collier County launches a three-part Author Spotlight Series at The Norris Center—featuring best-selling author Sarah Penner on Oct. 9, mystery writer Lew Paper on Nov. 6 and debut novelist Rowan Beaird on April 9, 2026—to raise funds for local public libraries with talks, Q&As and book signings.  Naples Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Gabrielle in the central Atlantic is forecast to become a hurricane later this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is moving west-northwest at 15 mph+ and models show the storm will remain far from local shores.  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the final budget hearing held Thursday at 5 p.m., Collier officials discussed a plan to cut the tax that funds the Conservation Collier program—this cut could reduce funds by up to 80% and limit efforts to protect sensitive land. Previous votes showed strong support for the program, but the proposed change may have long-term impacts on land conservation.  WGCU
  • Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. executive director Andy Koebel received statewide recognition from the Florida Rural Water Association with the William G. 'Bill' Grubbs Special Recognition Award—recognizing nearly 30 years of service in the water and wastewater industry. Wilson & Johnson attorney Kyle Bacchus was named chairman of the Trusts and Estates Section of the Collier County Bar Association to lead its efforts in legal education and practice.  Florida Weekly

  • It may not feel like fall in Naples, but with flu season near, Dr. Neha Vyus advises residents to get the flu vaccine now—especially those in high-risk groups—and protect themselves from severe illness.  WGCU
  • Registered dietitian Gisela Bouvier appeared in the studio on Thursday where she explained that a study found eating one Hass avocado a day improved heart health and sleep; she also showed simple ways to add the fruit to meals—this research supports using avocados for better overall health.  NBC2

  • Two quirky eateries are featured on a USA TODAY Network Florida Dining & Entertainment list of 17 road-trip worthy spots. The Bubble Room in Captiva reopened in July after hurricane damage, and Twisted Sheep Pizza & Brew in Naples is known for its odd menu items — both offering unique dining experiences for locals.  News-Press

  • A report from the National Association of Realtors said the Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island — and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach — markets ranked among the top 25 most expensive U.S. housing markets in the second quarter as 75% of metro areas posted home price gains.  Naples Daily News

  • FC Naples won its second match against Charlotte Independence this past weekend and extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches as the team pushes for playoffs. Head Coach Matt Poland discussed the win in a recent podcast and noted that season ticket sales remain strong with fans eager for upcoming games at Paradise Coast Sports Complex.  Fox 4
