COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday, Tap 42 Kitchen and Bar in Naples showcased a three-course Sizzle Dining menu that includes calamari and Wagyu steak—each meal donates one dollar to Blessings in a Backpack Southwest Florida for children facing food insecurity. The event runs until September 30th to support local restaurants and the community.  NBC2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southwest Florida is hosting a busy weekend of events—Island Hopper Songwriter Fest runs on Captiva from Sept19 to Sept21, Punta Gorda Craft Festival takes place on Sullivan St. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Key Lime & Tropical Fest fills Fishermen's Village with live music and vendors today from noon to 9 p.m., and Hopsized Brewing in Bonita Springs hosts its 4th Annual Oktoberfest today from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Fox 4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Naples Airport Authority stepped back from publishing names of persistent flight curfew violators in local newspapers— for now.  The Naples Press
  • The board voted to keep Collier County’s millage rate at 3.24 — meaning rising property values raised homeowners’ taxes by about $50. The decision approved on September 18 added millions to reserve funds for the county’s aging assets.  WGCU
  • The Collier County Board of County Commissioners approved $34 million in funding for Conservation Collier on September 19th after Chris Hall’s proposal to reduce the program by $25 million did not gain support. The board set the tax millage rate at .2096 (a lower level than before) for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.  WGCU
  • State Rep. Adam Botana proposed a local bill to phase in an elected board for the Naples Airport Authority—this measure would end the City's long control and may soon change how the airport is run.  The Naples Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • DeAngelis Diamond began placing bilingual signs and stickers with the Suicide – Crisis Lifeline number on hard hats at job sites in September in Naples to help lower the high suicide rate among construction workers. The firm is also overseeing construction of the new Collier County Behavioral Health Facility and partnering with the David Lawrence Center – both efforts aim to expand mental health care in Southwest Florida.  Florida Weekly
  • Florida restricted Covid-19 booster access after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said boosters are not needed for healthy people—only those over 65 or with special conditions can get one with a doctor’s prescription, and pharmacists now spend much of their day explaining the rule.  WGCU

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mercato West luxury condominiums were proposed at the site of the former Burger King drive-thru across U.S. 41 from Whole Foods Market in Mercato in North Naples—Guzman Hicks Architecture provided renderings for the project.  The Naples Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Naples High School celebrated Senior Night in an emotional home game against Golden Gate with fans filling the stands for the season's first home game. The school honored its seniors with heartfelt tributes and early touchdowns set the tone—energizing the crowd throughout the match.  WINK News
  • Lely head coach Ben Hammer defended his team's style on September 19 by saying that while other teams run between 160—170 plays per game, his players use three quarters of that number. He explained that their lighter play count supports a relentless offensive approach in every game.  The Naples Press
  • The News-Press and Naples Daily News named First Baptist’s Trinity McCormick as SW Florida’s 2025 Midseason Volleyball Player of the Year — a poll to choose the top candidate remains open until 10 a.m. on September 24.  News-Press
