COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Collier County hosts a range of Halloween events this month—family-friendly activities at Naples Zoo and Immokalee Pioneer Museum and adult events at Mercato along with additional fun in Bonita Springs, Marco Island and San Carlos Park. Residents can enjoy costume contests, treat trails and more seasonal festivities scheduled from October 3 through November 1.  Naples Daily News
  • Farmer Mike's U-Pick in Bonita Springs and Fort Myers is hosting its 11th annual fall festival that offers pumpkin and sunflower picking, a free mini pumpkin, and haunted corn mazes on Oct. 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31—along with a family-friendly corn maze available Fridays through Sundays and local food and craft vendors on weekend events.   • Chef Cal Bruno, a longtime friend of Good Morning Gulf Coast, visited the studio Thursday to showcase a salmon dish with capers and Kalamata olives that highlights fresh ingredients from Bruno's of Brooklyn—where his wife Genevieve Bruno announced a new happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. featuring drinks and small plates.  NBC2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 40 Immokalee Foundation Healthcare Pathway students toured Physicians Regional Pine Ridge yesterday—meeting doctors, nurses and surgeons while testing a surgical robot that sparked interest in a future in medicine. Tenth grader Karen O. said the visit opened up new career options and showed local students what a healthcare career can be.  NBC2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, more than 30 million birds flew south over Florida—7 million over Collier, Lee and Hendry counties—as fall migration peaked, guiding songbirds, shorebirds and waterfowl toward wintering areas or onward to the Caribbean and South America.  WGCU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Naples Airport Authority said that starting Thursday, planes now land one hundred feet higher with a steeper descent angle to help cut noise for residents living under the flight path. Pilots maintain that the change is safe and passengers remain unaffected, and locals hope this modification will really lessen the engine rumble — a move to be a good neighbor.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lighthouse of Collier received a $14,000 grant from Moorings Park Foundation to help seniors with vision loss learn safe cutting techniques and cooking practices—such as proper stove safety and kitchen organization that promote independence.  Florida Weekly
  • Today, Siena Lakes in Naples opens Torre Square, a continuing care neighborhood offering onsite assisted living with state-of-the-art amenities—an expansion aimed at meeting the growing need for quality senior care. The new two-story building features ample amenity spaces and interior courtyards and will later add memory care and long-term nursing.  Florida Weekly

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Collier County acquired the 2,247-acre Williams Reserve from Diane and Carrie Williams—purchased for $20,770,000 on Aug. 13 at Lake Trafford Road—and county officials say the land will be used for Conservation Collier and affordable housing.  Florida Weekly

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kendell Regas of Collier County has been named Special Olympics Florida’s 2025 Coach of the Year for her decade-long work coaching tennis, bowling, basketball, and stand-up paddleboarding—she is a mother of three and longtime volunteer who said she was surprised by the award while her athletes credited her for building a strong team.  NBC2
