COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in Naples have many kid-friendly Halloween events this October, including Boo at the Zoo at the Naples Zoo (Oct 10-12 and 17-19) with a scavenger hunt and costumed characters, and trick-or-treating in Victoria Park where decorated homes add spooky fun. Additional events include Farmer Mike's Fall Festival and Corn Mazes in Bonita Springs offering themed mazes and activities, Spooktacular Night in Estero with trunk-or-treating and an outdoor movie, and a downtown Bonita Springs block party with free candy.  Naples Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sheila Zellers dedicated her life to serving others from a young age and preached on a mission trip in Honduras—her lifelong passion for love has inspired many in our community.  The Naples Press
  • Southwest Florida offers a busy weekend of events — Taste of Greece in Fort Myers serves authentic Greek meals, Boo at the Zoo gives families a Halloween adventure at Naples Zoo, Timber Jamboree in Punta Gorda features live country music and crafts today, Air Supply performs in Fort Myers on October 12, and Englewood Beach Waterfest hosts boat races all weekend.  Fox 4
  • The Naples International Film Festival runs from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26—featuring about 60 short and feature films. The final day includes a screening of the family-friendly Princess Bride with a live soundtrack by the Naples Philharmonic.  The Naples Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Useppa homeowners group (Useppa Island Partners LLC) paid $16 million for assets including the Collier Inn, marinas, utilities, and common land on Useppa Island and is investing $35 million in redevelopment; the island (accessible by boat or helicopter) will see its marina structure turned into a temporary bar while rebuilding continues.  News-Press
  • Collier County will soon rule on the proposed Paraiso Beach Club at Vanderbilt Beach — DSDG Architects released renderings outlining plans for a private club. Long-time resident Carrie Mascio Pippen has asked for clarity on how the project will affect local beachfront access.  The Naples Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 3rd, Javien Altine rushed for 100 yards and scored three touchdowns as Gulf Coast defeated Barron Collier 28-21 in the Catfish Bowl, marking Gulf Coast's fourth straight win and Barron Collier's best offensive display of the season. Barron Collier hosted Bonita Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10th while Gulf Coast will host Bishop Verot at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17th.  The Naples Press
