COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lazy Springs Recreational Park will close permanently at the end of November after the property was sold for $5M, with its final open weekend scheduled on Nov. 29 and 30. The park will remain open on regular weekend hours until then.  WGCU
  • Veterans from the Gulf Coast were honored for their service at a golf tournament organized by Copperleaf Charitable Foundation and Home Base Florida—over 30 wellness program participants joined members of Copperleaf Golf Club for a day of golf, lunch, drinks, and prizes while Copperleaf has donated more than $222,000 to support clinical care and peer programs for veterans, military families, and families of the fallen.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, October 18, the Alliance for the Arts will celebrate its 50th anniversary and Rocky Horror Picture Show’s 50th with a double feature that pairs a haunted maze with an outdoor movie screening. Attendees will traverse the maze from 5 to 7 p.m., and tickets cost $30 (general) and $25 (members).  WGCU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Lorenzo formed in the Atlantic on Oct. 13 with winds of 50 mph and is expected to strengthen—forecasters say it will turn north and remain far from Naples.  Naples Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on Marco Island announced five boating safety classes scheduled for November and December, including a 2.5‑hour emergency primer on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. and a full‑day certificate course on Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; classes cost ($45‑$70) and will be held at (903 Collier Court, Marco Island) with registration required.  WGCU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Naples Comprehensive Health opened its new Southwest Florida Gynecologic Oncology clinic on Oct. 1 to bring advanced cancer care closer to local women. The service, led by Dr. Edward Grendys and Dr. John McBroom, offers advanced imaging, genetic testing and minimally invasive biopsies and is located at Pro Scan Women’s Imaging on Vanderbilt Beach Road — it partners with Northwestern Medicine to expand patient access to clinical trials.  Life In Naples

  • Naples restaurants are launching new fall specials for food and drinks — including updated menus, catering boxes, and seasonal cocktails that support local causes. New spots like Tulia Italian Steak, Ce Soir, and Bayshore Bodega will open soon while Compass Hotel and Old Vines Naples offer drink deals.  Naples Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Aubrey Rogers led the competition on Oct. 13 at the FGCU Aquatics Center, finishing second in individual meets and winning the boys 400 free relay—combined team scores had him topping the results with 1,038 points, followed by Naples with 1,021 and Barron Collier with 925—while swimmers from Barron Collier and Naples posted strong individual times in events like the 50 free and 200 free races.  News-Press
