COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 60 guests gathered Thursday, Oct. 16 at LoKey Hat Co. in Bonita Springs to honor sponsors for Naples Therapeutic Riding Center’s 20th Anniversary Bootstrap Boogie Barn Dance—appreciating their support ahead of the main event. The celebration will take place Saturday, Nov. 8 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.—tickets are available online.  Florida Weekly
  • The Arlington of Naples has partnered with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to offer free CERT training at its Cultural Arts Center at 7900 Arlington Circle over three Saturdays—November 1, 8, and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents of Collier County must apply by October 28 to join hands-on sessions that teach vital emergency response skills and include lunch and snacks.  Florida Weekly

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out Thursday morning on Whistlers Green Circle in Naples affecting seven people (including two children). The American Red Cross Southwest Gulf Coast to Glades Chapter provided free disaster help while investigating the cause of the fire.  WINK News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists in the Everglades have launched a new effort to fight the Burmese python invasion by capturing snakes and removing nests before eggs hatch—Kyle Findley and Megan De Angelis led the operation that removed 431 eggs from eight clutches. They said the team will expand the program next year to remove up to 1,000 eggs to help save local wildlife.  WINK News
  • Tropical Storm Melissa was 889 miles southeast of Naples at 5 a.m. Oct 23—forecasters said it will quickly strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane early next week. While models show direct impacts on Florida are unlikely, residents are urged to stay prepared—keeping emergency supplies and watching weather updates.  News-Press
  • Environment reporter Chad Gillis identified four remote southwest Florida spots—Big Cypress National Preserve, Cape Romano, the Gulf, and Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park—where residents and visitors can enjoy clear stargazing as rainy and hurricane seasons wind down, offering dark skies away from urban light.  News-Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Oct. 14, county commissioners approved rezoning and conditional use for Paraiso Beach Club on Vanderbilt Beach in North Naples to ensure that public access is preserved with a 15-foot sandy swath. The private club plans to open mid-2027 and include resort-style pools, cabanas, and restaurants—while keeping the beach open to everyone.  The Naples Press

  • A first-of-its-kind health, wellness, and beauty summit will empower women and raise funds in Naples next Thursday, Oct. 30. Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller—a noted cancer survivor—will serve as the keynote speaker while a Naples Fashion Week runway show benefits the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and Healthcare Network at Naples Grande Beach Resort.  NBC2
  • Collier Senior Center-Golden Gate was awarded $20,000 by the Women’s Giving Circle of Southwest Florida to support its UPSLIDE mental health program — which has served more than 165 seniors and will help provide free counseling and peer support to reduce isolation and depression.  Coastal Breeze News

  • Stone crab season began on October 15 and will last for six and a half months, with Naples restaurants and markets serving sustainably harvested claws—this season is a key food event in the area. Pinchers will host its 15th annual Stone Crab Festival today at 5 p.m., offering live entertainment and fresh claws for visitors throughout the weekend.  Naples Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Collier County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Oct 14 to amend the Magnolia Pond Planned Unit Development, expanding the Golden Gate community from 231 to 550 homes with 165 affordable Habitat houses reserved for lower-income residents + market-rate rental apartments will be built on 27.5 acres. Habitat’s CEO said construction will begin in 2027 as the project also features 210 condominium units, a pool, fitness center, clubhouse, and pickleball courts + 9 acres set aside as a preserve.  The Naples Press
