- ➤ Books on Third opened on Oct 11 on 3rd Street S in Naples with a 3,000 square foot space and over 16,000 new books available for local readers. The owners plan to host bi-weekly story time, book signings and other events—providing a cozy spot for community gatherings. Florida Weekly
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Rookery Bay Research Reserve in Naples will host educational events in December and January to offer hands-on learning for the Southwest Florida community—featuring programs at its Environmental Learning Center. News-Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lee Health closed its fiscal year and will mark its first year as a nonprofit on Nov. 1, expanding care with a new Fort Myers campus adding 92 beds, a regional lab and surgery center, and launching programs like hospital-at-home and community paramedicine. The system also boosted local services by expanding the Golisano Children's Health Center in Naples (and improving rehab and cancer care) to better serve the community. Naples Daily News

- ➤ Old Vines is moving its popular Supper Club from downtown to a larger space in North Naples at the Galleria Shoppes at Vanderbilt this winter. The new restaurant (2,200-square-foot with a 1930s and 40s design) will offer an expanded beverage program and open with soft openings (in early November, with a grand opening mid-November) while its downtown location continues to serve private events. - ➤ The Seacrest Country Day volleyball team forfeited 23 regular-season wins and suspended its starting libero for a year after the school arranged for senior Ava Daviault to live with a teammate's parent—resulting in a $2,650 fine and probation until Oct. 24 while the team remains eligible for the postseason and faces Keswick Christian in the region final today. The school said it plans to appeal the ruling so Daviault might compete in beach volleyball this spring. Naples Daily News
- ➤ The News-Press and Naples Daily News have launched a poll to choose the SW FL Boys Athlete of the Week for Oct. 20-25 with 12 high school athletes nominated based on coach reports and school emails—votes are accepted until 10 a.m. Thursday and the winner will receive a T-shirt and tote bag provided by BSN Sports and USA Today High School Sports Awards.
