- ➤ South County Regional Library in Estero will reopen Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. in its newly renovated building with improved spaces for all ages + a ribbon-cutting set for Jan. 7 and a community celebration for Jan. 10. ABC7
- ➤ Baby Basics held its annual fashion show on November 14, drawing over 250 attendees and raising more than $100,000 to fund free diaper distribution for low-income families. - ➤ A new nonprofit, Project Build, will hold its Tools For Tomorrow tool drive on Dec. 10 (at Brookside Market, 1947 Davis Blvd) to help foster children learn trade skills like plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work before they age out of the system. - ➤ The Lee County Port Authority stated that 774,689 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in October—an 18 percent increase over last October and the best month for the airport. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Naples Botanical Garden conducted a prescribed burn yesterday on about 2 acres of its Preserve area — the burn began midmorning and lasted several hours while staff kept watch for any hot spots into the evening and following days. The controlled fire reduced fuel buildup to help protect the garden and support Florida’s ecosystem. WGCU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city received the final permit from the Army Corps of Engineers on Oct 10—three years after Hurricane Ian destroyed part of the pier—but the project now awaits FEMA review and final funding before demolition and rebuild can begin. The $26 million project will use over $12.6 million in disaster funds and will take six months for demolition followed by 18 months for construction. News-Press

- ➤ Lee Health celebrated its first anniversary as a community-focused private nonprofit by keeping promises to offer care to all and launching new services such as community paramedicine and Hospital at Home.
