  • Baker Senior Center Naples has named Renee R. Lee as its new managing director — she will oversee more than 40 weekly programs at the 30,000 sqft center to keep adults 60 and older active and engaged.  Florida Weekly
  • The Naples Italian American Foundation honored retired Air Force Col. Rick LoCastro (Collier County Commissioner) on Nov. 11 during its annual Veterans Day luncheon, presenting him with a commemorative plaque for his military service and civic leadership.  Naples Daily News

  • Lee County law enforcement urges drivers this holiday season to avoid impaired driving—caused by alcohol, drugs, prescription medication or drowsiness—to prevent fatal crashes, noting that one life is lost every 42 minutes from these risky behaviors.  News-Press

  • Tony and Grammy Award-winning Leslie Odom Jr. brought his Christmas Tour to Artis — Naples on Dec. 3, delivering an intimate evening of holiday favorites and soulful standards for a sold-out audience after last year’s success.  ABC7
  • Naples Botanical Garden hosts Johnsonville Night Lights, a tropical winter wonderland with bright lights and festive activities (including magic wands and themed photo props). The event runs in the evenings from Nov. 28 through Jan. 4.  Florida Weekly
  • Riverside Park in Bonita Springs is offering holiday lights and nightly music through December at 10451 Old 41 Road. A snowy Holiday in the Park event on Dec. 2 featured snow slides, snow piles, free cookies and cider, and a Santa visit for families.  News-Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • If weather conditions and authorization allow, Conservation Collier will conduct ecological burns on six preserves—from Immokalee to Naples—between December and April to improve wildlife habitat and reduce fire risk, with local residents receiving mail notifications.  WGCU

HEALTH NEWS

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today warned that Abbott Diabetes Care's FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors have given incorrect readings, contributing to over 700 serious injuries and seven deaths worldwide. Naples residents using these devices should check their sensor status and stop using them until they receive a free replacement.  NBC2
  • Flu cases are rising and Lee Health will hold a news conference at its convenient care clinic on Metro Parkway on Wednesday to offer guidance on managing symptoms (experts advise that getting vaccinated can reduce severe effects, even with a new flu strain circulating).  WINK News
