- ➤ Naples celebrated the annual Christmas Parade on Dec. 9 with bands + marching floats and Santa arriving to greet thousands downtown. The parade led from Third Street South and concluded in front of City Hall with traditional festivities. Naples Daily News
- ➤ Hundreds of Jingled Elves are turning Naples into a festive wonderland today as they ride trolleys and stage flash mob dances to raise funds for nonprofits that support women and children. The organization has surpassed $1 million in donations and will contribute between $350,000 and $375,000 tonight. WINK News
- ➤ Bonita Springs hosts festive events. The Venezia Renaissance Faire runs Jan. 10-11 and 17-18 with minstrels and knights, while Naples Hooters collects teddy bears and books for local kids until Dec. 19 — Fort Myers Beach hosts a tree festival, and Grumpy Goat Coffee offers a holiday tasting Dec. 18. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A 1,009-pound great white shark nicknamed Ernst, tagged in Nova Scotia on Oct. 4, has pinged off Everglades and Marco Island over the past two weeks after a 2,600-mile trek south. Researchers at OCEARCH+ say her movements illustrate the seasonal migration to warmer Gulf waters. Naples Daily News
- ➤ The Florida Forest Service will begin an 818-acre prescribed burn for wildlife habitat management in Picayune Strand State Forest on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Residents in Collier County east of Naples and south of I-75 may see smoke and are advised to exercise caution. WINK News
- ➤ NOAA projects above normal temperatures from December through April in Naples due to a weak La Niña, but rainfall will be 10 to 30 percent below normal, worsening drought and brush fire risks. Only 3 to 5 severe weather events and near-normal freeze chances are expected this winter. NBC2

- ➤ David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health received a three-year grant of 100,000 dollars from Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support its Community Action Team program serving at-risk youth in Collier County.
