COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ More than 60 people gathered outside the Everglades detention facility Alligator Alcatraz for their 21st freedom vigil organized by The Workers Circle and local interfaith groups, calling for detainees’ release. The event will continue every Sunday with a free bus service (pickup available at several local congregations). WGCU
- ➤ Meals of Hope is launching Wheels of Hope, a mobile food pantry that will offer fresh produce and frozen meat to underserved areas (including Immokalee) using a grant from the Collier Community Foundation. It will begin service by the end of January. Fox 4
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Coastland Center began in the mid-1970s with Sears & Maas Brothers and evolved with major expansions in 1985 and 1995 that added new anchors and retail space. A movie theater now stands in place of Sears after its 2018 closure, 2019 demolition, and reopening on Oct. 1. Naples Daily News

- ➤ A wildlife biologist in a Santa hat carried a 153-pound Burmese python on Christmas Eve as part of the Conservancy’s invasive species removal on Collier County conservation lands + the team captured 10 pythons in December to protect native wildlife. News-Press
- ➤ A multimillion-dollar beach renourishment project in North Naples pauses for the holidays as crews have added sand to Vanderbilt and Pelican Bay beaches (sand lost after hurricanes). Work will resume on Jan. 5 and is expected to finish by the end of January. Naples Daily News
