On June 21, a lightning strike near the JW Marriott Island Beach Resort on Marco Island hit a chickee hut and caused minor injuries to beachgoers who were taken by ambulance—emergency crews quickly swept in to secure the area.

The Baker Museum announced that it received a gift of 74 works in glass and ceramics from Naples residents Dr. Laurence and Rita Sibrack, adding to its permanent collection.

The museum will open an exhibition on January 10th, 2026 — featuring work by key artists such as Dale Chihuly — to showcase this new collection.
