Good morning, Naples.

On Monday, July 7th, a Fort Lauderdale-bound Delta flight from Atlanta landed safely at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers after a passenger's personal battery burst into flames midair (carrying 185 passengers and six crew), and no injuries were reported.

A tragic Fourth+July shooting in the Avalon Park community of Ave Maria left Isel Hernandez dead after her mother heard a gunshot while preparing for a party, with neighbors placing flowers by the home and the sheriff's office reporting no arrests as the investigation continues.

A Naples man named Angel Arreguin, 23, was arrested on July 6 after entering Manantial de Vida Church with a loaded 9mm handgun, 60 rounds, and making remarks about mass shootings while doing pushups during service—he faces felony and misdemeanor charges and is under the Baker Act for mental health evaluation.

A Naples developer asked county leaders to vote today on a revised plan for 129 homes off Immokalee Road that now limits affordable housing to 30% instead of 100%.

The proposal removes rental options and a daycare center and reflects rising construction costs and neighborhood concerns — county staff recommends approval.

Gulf Coast Medical Trauma Center announced it will start using whole blood transfusions in trauma care, making it the first center in Southwest Florida to adopt the new treatment.

The method combines red cells, platelets + plasma from one donor to help streamline patient care for nearly 5,000 people each year.

IMG Academy will change its football team names to National, Junior National and State for the fall season — a change meant to help fans and families know which competition level each team will face.

The academy said the National team, led by coach Greg Studrawa, is expected to be among the top squads and will play key in-state games — a move to attract top student-athletes.
