- ➤ The 2025 Florida Python Challenge starts today at 12:01 a.m. and runs until July 20 as participants remove invasive Burmese pythons for prizes over $25,000. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is testing new infrared drone technology—an effort to better spot the pythons and protect native wildlife. News-Press
- ➤ More than a dozen neighbors attended a mosquito control meeting Thursday to oppose the district’s use of chemical insecticides like Naled on schools and personal properties in Collier County. - ➤ Attorney General James Uthmeier proposed building a migrant detention center at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport on June 19—raising environmental concerns about its location near Big Cypress National Preserve and endangered panther breeding areas.
