COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local restaurants are joining the annual Sizzle Dining event (running through Sept. 30) to offer discounted prix fixe menus, with $1 from every meal sold going to Blessings in a Backpack to help feed school-age children. Organizers hope 80,000 dinners will be sold by the record 127 restaurants participating, building on more than $150,000 raised since 2021.  Naples Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic cottages built on Marco Island in the 1920s were moved to Goodland in the 1950s, quickly changing the small farming area into a village. Collier County plans to preserve the cottages—made with durable Dade County pine—with a grant and community fundraisers.  Naples Daily News

  • A tragic discovery near Big Hickory Island shows several dead manatees floating in the waterways—tour guides and local boaters urge caution to protect them from speeding vessels.  WINK News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Bonita Springs resident proposed a regional beach parking pass so residents along the Lee/Collier county line can avoid the limited parking spaces at local Lee County access points—Duma clarified the proposal excludes beaches south of Bonita Beach Road and hopes officials will address the issue. Community engagement over the past two weeks has focused on finding a fair solution for residents using nearby Collier beaches.  Naples Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new Florida law effective July 1 requires condo boards to submit both a proposed budget and a substitute budget when spending exceeds 115% of the previous year—unit owners must receive these documents 14 days before a vote. Condo board election ties will lead to a runoff with ballots mailed within 7 days and a new vote held 21 to 30 days later—candidates must then follow the state-run process.  News-Press

  • On September 12, the Sentinels beat the Griffins in a high school football game—this result added to the local teams' competitive season.  News-Press
  • College football returns this Saturday—three live games will air on Gulf Coast ABC—with Wisconsin facing Alabama at noon, Georgia playing Tennessee at 3:30 p.m., and the Florida Gators meeting LSU at 7:30 p.m.  NBC2
